Caring for Pets

FOOD 4 PAWS is a pet support program offered to Meals on Wheels clients

Keeping seniors and their pets together is an important component in reducing loneliness and improving a senior's overall well-being. Caring for a pet brings pleasure and helps boost morale, optimism, and sense of self-worth. Pets can keep seniors active and alert as they age providing opportunity to be playful, to exercise, and to laugh.

But, for many seniors, caring for a pet means the tough decision between buying food and medicine for themselves or buying food and medicine for their pets.

FOOD 4 PAWS helps alleviate stress for low income seniors caring for a pet and allows them to enjoy their four-legged companions without worry. Clients of The Senior Hub who meet income eligibility guidelines can benefit from receiving a monthly supply of pet food, minor veterinary services, boarding, grooming, and occasional flea/tick treatments for their pets.
